Allergy Journal ALYATEC SPAT

ALYATEC strengthens its scientific leadership with the publication of two new articles.

The first article deals with the clinical validation of the SPAT device (Skin Prick Automated Test) developed by the company Hippo Dx, which enables automated skin prick testing (SPT). A clinical study conducted by ALYATEC involving 75 subjects compared its use to manual skin prick testing.

SPAT demonstrated comparable accuracy (96–100%) to conventional SPT (98–100%) in detecting birch pollen or house dust mite allergies in patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis. In addition, the SPAT web viewer allows for a simple, accurate and efficient digital measurement of wheal size by providing a composite image and using an adjsusted cut-off value of 4.5 mm.

The study results were published in the journal Allergy in July 2025 and are available here:

S. Seys et al., Validation of the Skin Prick Automated Test (SPAT) Cut-Off Value in Birch Pollen and House Dust Mite Allergic Rhinitis Patients, Allergy, July 2025.

The second article was written using data from ALYATEC’s volunteer database. It reveals that asthma related to birch and grass pollen is likely more common than previously reported: about half of patients allergic to these pollens exhibit asthma symptoms during controlled exposures in our Environmental Exposure Chamber (EEC).

ALYATEC’s volunteer database includes over 2,000 patients with highly detailed allergic profiles, established through consultations with ALYATEC physicians and skin prick testing to various allergens. This database enables ALYATEC to efficiently recruit large numbers of participants for studies related to asthma and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, as well as atopic dermatitis, food allergy, chronic rhinosinusitis, and severe asthma.

The article was published in the Journal of Allergy and Hypersensitivity Diseases in July 2025 and can be found here:
